Wanderlust Bedroom: The Art of Not Travelling

I am not really a person who expresses myself in the way I look, I don't dress overly representative of my 'likes' and the way I style myself. But I do represent myself in the way I style my bedroom, which doesn't make much sense as not many people actually see my room.

I suppose the irony lies in the fact that I fill my bedroom with dreams of travelling, when sitting in my room is doing the complete opposite of travelling. It is the art of not travelling, or travelling in the mind and through books.

Underneath it all, wanderlust is a way for yourself to remember that you are not travelling, you are not enriching your mind so wanderlust comes to stay for awhile until you go on an adventure. Lusting after something that isn't going to happen for awhile can make you feel sad and depressed, ultimately giving wanderlust slight negative connotations. But having wanderlust is better than not having it. It is a way to hold onto the threads of the possibility of travel; rather than having travel extinct from your life completely.

After India I had a mad moment and gave most of the things in my room to charity. I would joke with friends saying I'll just have a blanket and lamp in my room. I even contemplated giving away my comics, which in the end couldn't happen. I had to fill my room with memories of a foreign land. Now my room is made up of mainly books and photos. I hope you enjoy this very visual post.

“Because he had no place he could stay in without getting tired of it and because there was nowhere to go but everywhere, keep rolling under the stars...” - Jack Kerouac

I am extremely grateful for the room I have, that I can sleep in a bed in the warmth; safe and sound. Yet still, in a moment I would swap it for the basics of village life.

What a lovely room. I often get 'down' about the fact I haven't travelled the world. I think I'll have to do the same so I keep motivated to see the world.

I love your room! I too express my passion for travel and books in my room. I love seeing the reflection of India in your room that is such a great way to keep the memories you had. http://abookofmaps.blogspot.ca/
